Personal Statement:
- What action must the federal government take to assure high quality health care is available to all Americans?
- Quality health care is available to all Americans now. Unfortunately, the market doesn’t control this industry and as a result prices have gotten out of line. Prices of medical products/ procedures should be posted and approved by patients. Patients are responsible for bills and insurance companies pay patients.
- What programs would you cut or what additional revenue sources would you tap to bring the federal budget into balance?
- Expansion of existing revenue sources may be accomplished by reduction in tax rates. History reflects more revenue is received every time taxes are cut. Almost every Federal department and program is bloated. The Education Department should be cut considerably with more control locally. Tax simplification will allow the IRS to be reduced.
- What if anything should the federal government do to address our nation’s energy issues?
- Yes! Explore, drill and produce! Continue to fund research that will allow coal and alterative fuels to be improved and brought to market in innovative and affordable ways.
- How will you balance the continuing costs of military action with the costs of domestic needs?
- The answer has multiple parts. #1 As our military action becomes more successful troop levels should be reduced thus reducing costs. #2 Government spending is out or control, control the spending and government in the areas needed. #3 Tax cuts historically result in more dollars in the U. S Treasury, I am a proponent. #4 The cost of not being successful militarily are great regarding the future of our country thus potentially creating more pressure on “domestic needs” in the future.
- What should be done, if anything, to help young Americans, especially young West Virginians achieve greater financial security?
- Hopefully West Virginia parents are teaching their children personal responsibility and that lesson alone will help all to become financially secure. Education is the key and that closest to home usually is more meaningful and targeted correctly. The Federal government needs to set broad educational guidelines and return educational dollars to states that need to return dollars to local boards of education. Educational choice is important and should be facilitated to allow the type and method children are educated to be in the hands of parents. Opportunity opens wider when we do a better job of educating our children.
