Personal Statement:
- What should be done, if anything, to help young Americans, especially young West Virginians achieve greater financial security?
- The FairTax is the solution. It abolishes our income, payroll, gift and death taxes and replaces them with a progressive national retail sales tax. Workers would take home their entire paycheck. $400 billion compliance costs, embedded tax layers and the IRS would be abolished. Criminals would now pay taxes, too.
- What action must the federal government take to assure that high quality health care is available to all Americans?
- People must own their healthcare. Free market healthcare will drive down the cost of medicine, and give people vested interest in controlling their expenses, growing their wealth and improving their health. This can be accomplished with the purchase of high deductible health insurance and obtaining a Health Savings Account.
- What programs would you cut or what additional revenue sources would you tap to bring the federal budget into balance?
- We face a five trillion debt. Baby Boomers will double the recipients to Social Security and Medicare in the next 25 years. Replacing our income and payroll tax system with the FairTax, we would shift the tax base from 160 million workers to 350 million consumers and visitors to US.
- What if anything should the federal government do to address our nation's energy issues?
- Liberals, like Senator Rockefeller, have caused this energy crisis by restricting our domestic energy supply and thereby increasing demand which increases prices. We must permit exploration in Alaska (ANWR), the Atlantic and Pacific, and for shale oil. I agree with the Pickens Plan and promotion of clean coal technologies.
- How will you balance the continuing costs of military action with the costs of domestic needs?
- Thanks to the men and women who have voluntarily fought in our armed forces, we have not had one terrorist attack in America since 9-11-01. We should stay the course in Iraq and Afghanistan and withdraw ASAP when
they have become stable democratic nations.
