Biography:

I am the son of Gary Lee Hodges and Darlene McComas and husband of Heather Lee Hodges. I have two children, Hillary Victoria Hodges and Samuel Lee Hodges. My maternal grandparents are Josephine Lycans and the late Cabell Lycans. My paternal grandparents are Albert Lee and Anna Lois Hodges.

I have 10 years experience working in the assessor's office and the previous four years serving as your Wayne County Assessor.

During my time in office I have created field offices in Stepptown and Ceredo to better assist taxpayers in the surrounding areas. I have established a tax mapping office within the Assessor's office, bringing the tax mapping department up to modernized standards.

I have worked very hard to promote and increase the Homestead/Disability Exemption Credit to help the senior citizens of Wayne County.

Personal Statement:

"If re-elected, I will continue to serve the people of Wayne County with honesty and professionalism. For the past 10 years, I've done everything in my power to best provide for the county of Wayne. Just as before, I will not let you down."

"You, the citizens of Wayne County, have shown your support and confidence in me for several years. It is greatly appreciated and still very much needed. Your vote is important to me! Thank you."
What are your qualifications?
My qualifications include numerous assessment, market analysis, and appraisal training courses. I strive to dedicate my full time and efforts to serve the people of Wayne County by keeping assessments within state guidelines, and property values fair and accurate for the people. My record of honesty and professionalism is something I strongly believe in.
Being the county assessor means managing numerous departments and many people. Do you have any management experience?
I have 10 years experience working for the people of Wayne County with 18 capable and very knowledgeable employees. Of those 10 years, I have served in the capacity of Chief Deputy Assessor from January 2, 2004, until August 5, 2004. For the past four years I have served as your Wayne County Assessor, managing not only the assessor's office, but also a mapping office, real estate office, and satellite offices in Stepptown and Ceredo.
Do you have any experience in tax collection or assessing?
Tax collection is the duty of the county sheriff as he or she is the treasurer of the county. As stated previously, I do have 10 years experience in assessing personal property and real estate in Wayne County.
What skills or job experience lends itself the most to you being a good candidate?
Please refer to questions one through three. In addition, I have had the pleasure of getting to know the fine people of Wayne County, both on a professional level as well as a personal level. I take great pride in being able to assist and serve everyone, and I plan to continue with your support.
What changes would you like to make in Wayne County taxes?
I would like to lower the taxes. Unfortunately, I do not have that ability. Beware of anyone who says they can. The duty of the assessor is to place a fair market value on all property. I will continue to do everything in my power to keep assessments fair for the people and within the guidelines of the West Virginia Department of Tax and Revenue.
How would you ensure standards for property values in the county are fair and accurate?
The assessor's office is audited every year on sales data, appraisal guidelines, and numerous other areas of compliance. I am proud to say that for every year I have been in office, I have successfully met all state requirements and plan to do so in the future.
